Here are my favorite, inspirational YouTube channels – they are not at all business-focused, but neither are they woo-woo “inspirational.” These channels feature hosts that have discovered and followed their passion, and are making a living of it! I think we can all learn from that spirit, regardless of where we are on our career or life journey.
My Favorite YouTube Channels for the Inspiration to Chase My Dreams
LAST UPDATED: OCTOBER 1, 2019
MIgardener[YouTube Channel] – This young, Michigan-based gardener and his wife (and
Videos are uploaded 3 times a week, and in 2017 he featured a series of videos on 87-year-old tomato seeds that he successfully planted and harvested. It was really fun to watch.
UPDATE: Today (October 1, 2019), I watched MIgardener harvest sunflower seeds… wish I’d watched that a few weeks ago, before I botched that job here at our house! (Upside: this was the first year one of our mommy-and-me sunflower projects actually resulted in a full-size, seed-bearing plant!)
For anybody thinking about trying their hand at gardening, he has a playlist of 100% organic growing guides for 55 different fruits and vegetables. Check him out, and let me know what you think!
Homemade Wanderlust[YouTube Channel] – “Dixie” is a 30-year-old hiker who completed and documented her hike on the Appalachian Trail in 2015 and during 2017 walked northbound on the Pacific Crest Trail. She graduated college, had a typical ‘career’ job, and pretty literally walked away from it.
Check out her backstory and watch any of her videos to see how she’s embracing and loving the adventure she’s been on since she walked away from her job in 2015. If you are or want to be a hiker of any variety, she has great and thorough product recommendations and reviews on her website.
UPDATE: October 1, 2019, I am on pins and needles waiting for her next installment from the Camino de Santiago (a pilgrimage across northern Spain), which had been one of my pre-kids goals. Not yet achieved for me, so Dixie’s trek is definitely a vicarious thrill and renewed inspiration to do this trek in my future!
High Carb Hannah[YouTube Channel] – Hannah is more of what I always thought of as a “traditional” YouTube personality – she started her YouTube channel to document her weight loss journey. Watching her story and her progress hopefully inspires others to find their own passion, which may be different than hers. She lost her weight by eating a high carb-low fat vegan diet, and so she does focus on that type of information on this channel.
She recently started a sister channel High Vibe Hannah, where she produces content focused on the Law of Attraction and how she believes it has changed her life.
UPDATE: October 1, 2019, I haven’t continued watching this channel regularly, but I will say that I’ve continued my 99% plant-based eating since I stumbled upon her channel a few years ago. I still credit her with being one of the first YouTube personalities to push me to make real and long-lasting change in my life (even though our stories and lives are so different.)
My YouTube Backstory
I uploaded my first travel videos to YouTube in 2008, but just shared the link with friends. I don’t know if I’ll ever publicly publish on YouTube. For years, I didn’t use YouTube for anything other than tech and baby gear tutorials.
In 2016, I discovered the world of specialized content on YouTube, and most of my ‘entertainment’ time is now devoted to YouTube, Amazon Prime and the occasional free month of Netflix instead of traditional television.
How about you – do you watch YouTube content? If so, do watch for entertainment, or just to figure out how to fix things? What are your favorite – and inspirational – channels?
