Welcome! I’m so glad you’ve joined me. Career Break Mom is home to moms (and others) searching for help in planning, taking or ending their career breaks.
For so long, I assumed that a traditional employment arrangement was the only option for providing stability in a “grown-up” life. Giving up 40 hours (or more!) a week to an employer just seemed normal to me… until it simply didn’t make sense anymore after the birth of my first child.
There are so many legitimate money-making opportunities that offer more flexible schedules than traditional employers. Or, maybe a traditional job is the right place for you right now.
But, if you’re feeling any doubt, wouldn’t you feel better if you actually sat down, worked it out, and knew for sure that the job you’re staying in is truly the right one? Have you been wondering about this, too?
Who Can Career Break Mom Help?
Most of us are living busy lives. Spending the time and energy to assess and change our lives can feel overwhelming, let alone adding the time to research the process and all of our options.
I am focused on helping busy moms (and soon-to-be moms) in three stages: planning, taking and ending a career break.
Whichever stage you are in, please join me in getting your plan down on paper and get moving on your timeframe. With these resources and tools shared on this blog, I could have saved my own self hours of research and avoided months of guilt layered on top of the uncomfortable feelings of indecision!
Let me help you get the leg up on your own work!

For new moms preparing for their first maternity leave, Career Break Mom provides a number of free resources and helpful articles focused on the professional side of the equation, from pre-pregnancy planning checklists to maternity leave work hand-off spreadsheets and more. If you’re in this phase of life, you may also be interested in my posts on smart steps I took before maternity leave and another on some of my biggest pregnancy fails.
For new moms planning a career break, Career Break Mom provides resources and content focused on frugality and budgeting, as well as building rewarding part-time income opportunities and long-term planning and strategies for future career re-entry.
For moms currently taking time away from their career, Career Break Mom provides self-assessments and planning tools to help the reader build her own custom timeline so that when she is ready, she can approach a job hunt (or any of the other income-generating opportunities) with all the skills, preparation and confidence to succeed.
For others considering a return to work outside the traditional on-site, employer-employee arrangement, the number of options available on the internet can be overwhelming! Career Break Mom offers an unbiased discussion of the freelance, side hustle, business, online and traditional career work options.
So many of the websites push one or another as the solution, when the reality is that particular solution worked for that person at that time in their life. While the Job Search Planner was originally intended to be used for a traditional job search, it can also be a tool for your broader brainstorming and planning (and I’ve included suggestions on how to do that on page two of the Planner)!
Let me help you save some time and energy in your self-assessment, planning and action.
Welcome! – Ariana
