Welcome! I’m so glad you’ve joined me. Career Break Mom is my record of a work in progress journey from a traditional career to a do-it-y0urself work-for-myself while-the-kids-are-at-school lifestyle.
For so long, I assumed that a traditional employment arrangement was the only option for providing stability in a “grown-up” life. Giving up 40 hours (or more!) a week to an employer just seemed normal to me… until it simply didn’t make sense anymore after the birth of my first child.
There are so many legitimate money-making opportunities nowadays that offer more flexible schedules than traditional employers. Or, maybe a traditional job is the right place for you right now. And, that’s totally cool.
But, I’ve stumbled my way along this career (im)balance journey for a few years now. And, I sort of love it. It’s exhilarating, terrifying, inspiring and eye-opening. I also know that I’m blessed to be in a position where I could reduce my work hours as well as income for a few years.
Who Can Career Break Mom Help?
Most of us are living busy lives. Spending the time and energy to be fully present in our jobs, personal lives and families can feel overwhelming, let alone adding the time to research and buy super-thoughtful and specific gifts for everybody in our circle (and all the teachers at the end of the year!)
I hope my collection of get-it-done custom gift guides and random career and business tools will help you, my time- and inspiration-starved friend, save energy to focus back on your real priorities… not just your to-do list!
Because, that’s the goal here – in case I wasn’t clear about it earlier – if you’re searching for a solution to a problem, like finding that perfect gift for the kid who broke her arm on the monkey bars, … If I’ve already walked that path and made the t-shirt, I’ll have a shortcut for you to shop – probably on Amazon – and save time.
How Can Career Break Mom Help You?
For new moms preparing for their first maternity leave, Career Break Mom provides a number of free resources and helpful articles focused on the professional side of the equation, from pre-pregnancy planning checklists to maternity leave work hand-off spreadsheets and more. If you’re in this phase of life, you may also be interested in my posts on smart steps I took before maternity leave and my shopping list for the mom going back to work after maternity leave.
For any mom in charge of all the gift buying and problem solving in the household, Career Break Mom shares my list of custom gift guides for Amazon, Target, Etsy and other large retailers. Why? Because none of has a dang extra minute to research all of the options. So, if I have reason to dig around the internet to solve my own Trunk or Treat decorations problem, I’m going to share it here, and hope that’ll cut short the next gals slog through the Halloween decorating options! (Seriously, when did efficient Google searching become a necessary parenting skill?)
For others considering a return to work outside the traditional on-site, employer-employee arrangement, the number of options available on the internet can be overwhelming! So many of work from home websites push one or another as the solution, when the reality is that particular solution worked for that person at that time in their life. I occasionally post about my own imperfect journey in working from home and for myself, hoping that I can help those that come behind me on this path!
Thank you for stopping by!
Welcome! – Ariana
