Nobody wants to spend a fortune on maternity clothes for the office. By nature, these maternity outfits have a short lifespan. Today, I share some simple ideas to get this one maternity dress to work for you in any season.
One of the realities of shopping for maternity office outfits is that the clothes have a super short shelf-life. Each big maternity purchase needs to serve as many purposes as possible. So, this week, I’ll focus on wearing one maternity dress to work in any season.
Depending on where in the country you live, the severity of the season will vary, but most of us will be dressing our pregnant bodies for work in at least two seasons.
Please keep in mind what’s already in your own closet as you read this post. Take a hard look at cover-ups (cardigans and scarves) as well as shoes and accessories that fit and can be worn for the remainder of your pregnancy. With those “free” pieces in mind, follow along below for maternity shopping inspiration!

Let’s start with this Professional Maternity Dress – Tank, a great option for wearing throughout your pregnancy – first trimester, second trimester and third trimester!
While “body conscious” dresses were never really been my thing, during pregnancy I did find like the way that layering with body-con maternity tops and maternity dresses worked, particularly for having a pulled-together look at the office.
This simple professional maternity dresses is available in a selection of colors and makes a great base layer for a bunch of different looks. This week, we’ll work with the black dress (although the berry or even the purple would be great, if you have other separates that already work with these colors!)
How to Wear this Maternity Dress to Work in Spring
For a workday in late spring, break out a sparkly necklace like the Crystal Bib Necklace to go with your dress. If you’re earlier in your pregnancy, grab a light cardigan in a standard size like the Women’s Any Day Cardigan.
Later in your pregnancy, you may want to try sizing up in standard sizes or check out the maternity cardigans like this.
Finally, don’t forget a comfortable pair of flats like these Round Toe Ballet Flats! Whether it’s to wear for your commute, during the day or even just while in the sanctuary of your own office or cube, I always felt a wave of relief to put on flats after a stretch of pregnancy-body-on-heels.
You may have a pair in your closet already, but if not, these are affordable, especially if you find that you need to size up your shoes slightly during your pregnancy!

How to Wear this Maternity Dress to Work in Fall
For early fall, grab a Chunky Cardigan. In the first and second trimester, your standard size coverups may still do the trick, although in the late third trimester, you may want to put a maternity cardigan in heavy rotation.
By late fall, you’ll want to layer in a pair of leggings. Maternity Leggings were my gateway drug to leggings. No lie!
I’d never worn them before pregnancy, but layering dresses with leggings was my go-to during my pregnancy. This was especially true by the third trimester, when I tried to avoid “real pants days” as much as possible!
Everybody has different leggings preferences. Take your cue from the casual maternity legging style you like, and buy a pair or two that you only wear to work (to reduce pilling and wear.)
If this particular pair doesn’t strike your fancy, Target.com has a decent selection of maternity leggings options – if you live near to a Target store, you can always pop in to return or exchange and not deal with the return mail hassle.

Maternity Shopping Tip of the Week
One of my favorite “tricks” to keep maternity office style simple: once I wore one of something and liked it, I’d buy another one (or two) in the same color. So, if this dress works for you, grab another (or the 3/4 sleeve version) in another color. #maternityuniform
Ideally, you are shopping before you desperately needing any of these items… so you can take your time and keep in mind my top four questions to ask when shopping for professional maternity style.
