What working mom wouldn’t love these awesome surprises that make the work-day more zen and a touch more enjoyable?
Gift cards – Does this mom need to run out to lunch or for a coffee during the workday? Buy a gift card for her favorite convenience food.
I usually just grab my gift cards at the grocery store, or wherever I see a decent cashback or discount deal for cards. You can also grab gift cards here.
Or, do you know her favorite nail or hair salon? You can often buy a gift card directly from that store’s website or by calling them up.
Hand lotion – Add some zen to her day with a bottle of hand lotion that she can store at her desk. I’ve selected a few highly-rated options below.
The Delectable by Cake set may be a good fit for the mom who likes a stronger scent, and promises to be rich but not greasy. This set is vegan, gluten-free, GMO-free, paraben-free and phthalate-free.
The eos Hand Lotion set is ultra-convenient for the mom-on-the-go. I’ve kept several of these containers in my purse, in a drawer as well as in various nooks and crannies of my car.
The Crabtree & Evelyn set is ultra-moisturizing, and is great if this mom struggles with very dry hands all winter. However, it may be a bit heavy for the office. Depending on the work she does (is she outdoors?), this might be just right, though!
The Body Shop Shea Soft Hands Warm Kisses set is a great combo pack of hand lotion and lip balm. These are smaller packages, but especially for Body Shop fans, they appreciate the quality. The shea butter scent is very mild – for something stronger, check out the mango and strawberry options.
Lip balm – Dry out in the winter months? Consider this tinted lip balm from Burt’s Bees to stay moisturized and keep it looking professional.
On a related note, check out my current favorite water bottle to stay hydrated during the day. The closest I’ve found to for-real, no-spill.
Air plant – To add another spa-like and relaxing element to an office, consider this nearly no-care splash of green. Do you have more than one person to shop for? This three-pack could be split up, or keep one for yourself.
Desk art – Especially in a busy or stressful work environment, a few reminders to relax and take a breath can be invaluable. Here are some quick buys from Amazon that should fit on a desk.
For an even more personal touch, grab a recent piece of her child’s artwork and run to the local crafts store (or even a well-stocked drug store or Target) and find a frame that fits!
Photo Gifts – During the holiday season, I’ll typically order Christmas cards as well as a few photo gifts for the extended family. For at least the past five years, I’ve been using Shutterfly. (This is not an affiliate link, I just regularly use this service, and thought you might like it, too!)
In the last few years, I’ve purchased puzzles, memory games, shopping bags, mugs, magnets and photo albums.
Chocolate or Candy Treats – If you’re buying for somebody with a sweet tooth, you can’t go wrong with some treats for the office. But, don’t buy anything too nice, because they may have to share! 😉 Buy their favorite treat locally — I’ll have a few more indulgent suggestions for gifts intended for home!
Charging Station – I’ve always liked to have a charger at home as well as in my office. While I’d probably stick with a more generic and interchangeable USB style charger, the iPhone specific charger is so pretty!
Here are a few options, the right choice might depend on the number and brand of devices to be charged, as well as the space available in the office.
Create a Working Mom Care Package for Home
At the end of a long day, we all like to relax in different ways, but here are some wonderful indulgences that a working mom might particularly appreciate.
Funny throw pillow – For some portion of the evening, most of us end up lounging on a sofa or bed for a short while before sleep… have you found a funny or thoughtful throw pillow to add to or refresh her home?
Bath bombs – A great idea to help a mom have a mini-spa day in her own home. Bath bombs add a touch of luxury to any bath.
Fancy bottle of liquor or wine – Swing by the store and buy a fancy bottle of her favorite liquor or wine. You know, the premium ones that she might otherwise not splurge on for herself. Go on, treat her!
If you’re out of town and trying to send a gift of alcohol, some might suggest a “wine of the month club.” Years ago, I heard several stories about botched delivery attempts due to nobody being available to sign for the delivery. Maybe things have changed? (If so, let me know in the comments!)
Until I hear otherwise, and unless you are sure somebody will be at home to accept the regular deliveries, consider another gift option!
Whole house cleaning – Do you know (or can you find out) her regular or seasonal cleaning service (if she has one)? I know that a cleaning-free weekend, taking a cleaning session out of the mix, would feel glorious to me (hint, hint!)
However, if she doesn’t already have an arrangement with a cleaning service, this might not be the best surprise gift. Everybody’s comfort level is different as far as having other people in their home.
Creating Care Packages
An important factor in your gift-giving is whether you’ll be handing the gift to the person or sending a physical or electronic gift.
For in-person gift-giving, you may wish to create a ‘traditional’ care package or gift basket. Pick up a simple basket and filler, then shop for some small gifts and cards below! More time than money? Stop by your local crafts store to pick up a discounted basket and tissue paper.
For care packages by U.S. mail, I find the easiest thing is to run in to a local post office and grab a few U.S. Postal Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes. Then, I know I’m spending a certain amount on postage (from $6.65 to $18.85) and not worrying about weight or how much it will cost me once I get to the post office!
And, of course, any single item, wrapped or in a gift-bag will be great, too. Depending on the gift-giving occasion, this information is provided to give you the option to group several smaller (or larger!) items into a bigger care package or gift basket.
Well, that wraps it up — Those are my top picks for gifts for working moms. I hope this gift guide gives you some wonderful ideas for working mom gifts.
